Imagine Homelessness

Imagine losing everything you worked hard for

so you search for an opportunity to work harder and rebuild

only to be denied because you lost everything

Imagine fighting to protect the freedom that makes

America the land of the free only to suffer from PTSD

and be shunned by the very people you were protecting

Imagine wanting so much to provide for your child

that you beg for aid casting aside your pride

only to be asked what kind of parent you are

Imagine the reason you are in your situation

is the going under of the place you worked

only to be told find work and you wouldn’t be in your situation

Imagine suffering from an addiction

that came from trying to cope with your setting

only for your setting to be blamed on the addiction you’re coping with

Imagine your greatest accomplishment is surviving through the day

only for not surviving to be your greatest desire

Imagine the government referring to you as a stray cat

in resistance to the development of a place where you can be fed

only to threaten to evict your family for giving you a bed

Imagine people abusing you for stress relief

causing extensive physical damage

only for you to be looked upon as a meaningless savage

Imagine living a healthy life and taking care of yourself

only to get ill and medical bills

cripple your family to a point of no recovery

Imagine being judged on your life’s condition not your character

Never given the possibility of a chance

because people are only quick to criticize never to assist

Imagine making it to where you are

because of the help someone gave you

only to actively oppose other people receiving help

Imagine being a child experiencing everything you’ve imagined

when what you have been imagining is the reality of being homeless
